During a regular meal delivery, Jane, a delivery volunteer, noticed that a meal from the previous day had been left in the cooler at Sharon’s house. Jane followed our protocol, disposing of the old meal, leaving the new one, and notifying our office.
Our Client Services Manager reached out to Sharon to check in and quickly realized she was falling in and out of consciousness during the phone call. She stayed on the phone with Sharon while another staff member called emergency services, ensuring they knew that help was on the way, and remained on the phone until she knew Sharon was being taken care of.
After keeping in touch with Sharon and her family, we learned that Sharon had been suffering a stroke and had been falling in and out of consciousness for over 12 hours. If it hadn’t been for Jane noticing the meal and quickly notifying our team, the outcome for Sharon could have been much worse.
We are so grateful to our incredible volunteers who deliver more than a meal each day, ensuring our neighbors feel connected and supported.
